Lexington, SC-
In front of a tightly-packed Carolina barbecue restaurant, filled with jubilant supporters, Mike Huckabee, finishing third in the Michigan primary, congratulated Mitt Romney for his win, but again predicted victory in South Carolina.
” Looks like, I won Iowa, John McCain won New Hampshire, Romney won Michigan, “Huckabee said.” But ladies and gentlemen, we’re going to win South Carolina!” The crowd erupted.” We’re going to make it real clear that the first in the south primary, is going to give their support to the first in the south candidate who understands leadership, and leadership that comes right from the earth, right from the heart of the win actually helps Huckabee in South Carolina. If McCain won last night, it would have been difficult for Huck to counter the tidal wave of momentum of two back to back wins. Now that McCain lost Michigan, it again levels the playing field in South Carolina for Huckabee. He can now focus on the two areas that the Huckabee campaign believe they can get traction with, and outflank McCain in South Carolina: illegal immigration, and their evangelical grassroots network.
South Carolina is Huckabee’s firewall, as even former South Carolina Governor, and Huckabee SC architect, David Beasley has said repeatedly during rallies to the Huckabee faithful.
He has to win the state, or it will be very difficult for him to pull out a win on Tsunami Tuesday this February 5th.
