There are several kinds of Tornado Survival Kits - reusable ones or one-time use kits. And then there are the “survival” and “survival deluxe” versions of a tornado kit. For someone a tornado kit must allow him to still be able to watch TV, a skin lotion and a peppermint tea - for another person just being alive and healthy would be enough.

A Tornado Emergency Kit should contain about 1 liter (34 ounces) of drinking water per day minimum - so if you want to put together a 3 day tornado survival kit then it should have at least 3 liters or 102 ounces of drinking water - 6 liters (approx. 100 ounces) would be better though.
Water might be one of the most important things to pack as it is essential for human survival. The U.S. government actually recommends one gallon of water per day, but this includes water for washing and cooking.

You also want a flashlight with WORKING batteries & new spare batteries.

A first aid kit should also be included - an otherwise minor wound could become a threat to your survival if it get’s infected.

A battery-power radio is also recommended. But keep in mind this radio is supposed to inform you, so you don’t need a dolby-surround stereo with CD-player and tape deck.

Depending upon where you live, you should also have something that keeps you warm and dry to protect yourself from freezing.

Something that you might not think of when it comes to a tornado kit is a loud whistle - but in case that you get stuck underneath something a whistle could help others to locate you, even when you don’t have enough strenght to shout.

It’s an excellent option to pack some duct tape as this is one of the most versatile helpers you could wish for.

If you pack canned foods - don’t forget the can opener!

Other items that should be included are a solar blanket, an emergency poncho, a respirator mask, work gloves and bio hazard bags.
