Last week an F3 tornado tore through Suffolk, leaving a swath of devastation the likes of which this area probably hasn’t seen in decades.
I am pretty sure even the devastation from Isabel in 2003, while maybe wider spread, was not as severe as this.
Another blogger in the Hampton Roads area, Michael Tefft and his blog The Mind of Tefft posted an article this evening about his experience and work at the site of the most concentrated damage.
It was pretty graphic and well worth the read.
Michael at The Write Side of my Brain, chronicled his recent trip, with his church to New Orleans. Another great series of articles reminding us that there is always work to do.

I am inspired by the way citizens pulled together during this disaster and got the job done. Folks were housed, fed, given as much comfort as possible by friends, neighbors and family.
In my minds eye, it is what Christianity is supposed to be like. When things get tough, everyone bands together and carries each other through. Not because they must, but because they want to.
It wasn’t limited to churches either. It was a community.
I watch this with Suffolk and enjoy seeing the work being done, but at the same time I am reminded of Mississippi, Louisiana, parts of Alabama and even Texas that were ran over and left for dead by Hurricane Katrina. There’s still a lot of work to be done there. And folks are still stepping up to the plate.
We need more folks.
