ANATOMY OF A COVER VIDEO EDITION

WIZARD #95: This issue with a cover date of July 1999, marks the first time Alex has painted the X-Men; not the original ones from the 1960s which we saw in Marvels, but the so-called “new” X-Men from Giant Size X-Men #1. These characters include Storm, Banshee, Phoenix, Nightcrawler, Colossus and Wolverine. He painted them the way they appear in their early issues by Chris Claremont, John Byrne and Dave Cockrum. I’m just going to say that I really like this painting although I’m not too crazy about the lighting of the characters, I prefer it when Alex puts them in broad daylight. But there’s a reason for this odd lighting, check out the video I uploaded below to see and hear Alex’s comments on this piece.

Heute am Freitag war der abwechslungsreichste Tag am Flugplatz. Aber der Reihe nach. Den Anfang machte der Luftwaffen Airbus A310-304 10+25. Eigentlich war ich zum Flugplatz weil grade eine Antonov 124 gelandet war. Aber einen Airbus nimmt man ja auch gerne mit. Beim warten auf den nächsten Anflug des A310 konnte ich einen Bussard noch ganz gut ablichten. Offensichtlich fehlen ihm auf der linken Seite ein paar Federn. Auch ein Airliner verkürzte die Zeit ein wenig. Allerdings bin ich mir bei Typ und Airline nicht ganz sicher. Könnte sich um einen A330 der Lufthansa handeln. Dann erschien der Airbus wieder. Allerdings machte er ILS-Anflüge. Deshalb sind die Bilder er aus einer schräg von unten Perspektive. Danach folgte der Tornado IDS 44+34 des AG51. Dieser flog wieder die 08 an. Von dem Tornado habe ich dann auch noch ein 2. Bild anzubieten. Nun folgte wieder ein Airliner von Nord nach Süd. Könnte eine 767 sein, unter Umständen  vielleicht Air France. Als nächstes störten mich 2 F-4F Phantom, vermutlich vom JG71 aus Jever, bei meinem Versuch zu frühstücken. Habe auch noch ein 2 Bild gemacht der hinteren Maschine. Etwas später flog mir dann eine E-3A der Nato vor die Kamera. Auch da habe ich natürlich abgedrückt. Und einen Airliner erwischte ich auch noch. Eine 747 der Korean Air mal von der Seite aufgenommen. Ganz zum Schluss folgen nun die Bilder die der eigentlich Grund für den Weg zum Flugplatz waren. Die Fotos der Antonov 124-100 UR-82029. Um kurz nach neun ist sie gelandet und um 12:15 wieder gestartet. So wie es aussah wurden Lynx Helikopter verladen. Davon gibt es auch noch 2 Fotos. Started off the day less than impressed with the setup, but decided that May may make some magic happen so I decided to target the area right around Clinton, MO.  Storms fired up in KS, and I headed W to intercept one in between Ft Scott and Mound City.  I intercepted the storm right at the KS/MO st. line.  They were less than impressive, and I quickly decided to drop South to Intercept the only Tornado warned storm at that time, which I intercepted right at Lamar.  When I got into town, there was a report that there was a funnel cloud 1 mile South of Lamar.  I was being core’d at the time and wasn’t able to see anything, but when I emerged from all the rain (no hail at all, btw) I saw nothing that impressed me at all.  Did manage to see several close lightning bolts, and some winds that were rocking the car, but other than that, There wasn’t a whole lot to it.

The main excitement of the day was when I was about 8 miles from home at about 3 AM or so and hit a deer, causing some damage to the front passenger side quarter panel.  I’ll post a couple pictures from the day in a day or two.
