Storm News & Commentary

I’m leaving for Port/or Lake Charles, Louisiana tomorrow for a mission trip where I believe we’ll be doing hurricane clean up and re-building type things. I won’t be able to get to a computer so I’ve put my Twitter RSS feed over to the right here to give updates on what’s happening. It should be interesting; I went to New Orleans in April 2005 before Katrina and now I’m going to Lake Charles after hurricane Rita. So check it out, the updates should be interesting.

Note: The previous Twitter posts on the feed were from the Online Journalism Symposium at UT and for a class sports blog project.

I was looking for videos of Lake Charles and Hurricane Rita and happened upon this. The Charlie Brown music and upbeat voiceovers made this storm sound like a Sunday picnic coming.

This time last week, Cyndi and I had finished the rehearsal dinner coverage of Britney and Michael’s wedding in Jonesboro and were getting rested for the big wedding day. The rehearsal dinner was held at Church Street Station in Jonesboro and had some really great food catered by Godsey’s.

After the dinner, we headed upstairs for a few portraits…

And to our luck, they had it set up for prom for Saturday night. We to grab a shot to honor the night!

Saturday started at Britney’s parents’ house for the preparation and reception set-up. So many people were there setting up for the reception. When so many friends and family are willing to help out, you know you have a special

The “M” and “B” where everywhere! I love it when the wedding has a

Britney and Michael took time before the ceremony to see each other.

Britney was absolutely beautiful!

So, what you’re not able to see in this photo is the fact that it was lightning like crazy outside and started pouring rain and hail just after this!

Britney and Michael made a block around the church and came back for a few more portraits. Just after we finished, the tornado sirens started going off and everyone who hadn’t gone on to the reception headed down to the church’s basement for a few minutes. These two didn’t let it phase them one bit!

The reception was planned to be in a tent at Britney’s parents house. Unfortunately, during the weather craze, the ground got soaked as did the outdoor decorations. I was able to get a shot of the decor earlier that day, though…

Mmmm…

The tent was beautiful with the upward lights throughout giving it quite a bit of ambiance. This is my one tip for receptions… lighting is crucial. When you’re planning for the reception, you need to think about the mood, and more than just “dark.” Make sure and add some drama with the lighting to make your reception pop.

Everybody loved the detail of the cake…

And Michael’s cake was even sweeter!

Since the ground was soaked, Britney changed into some muck boots. Now… is this the “old” or the “borrowed?”

We had to break out the Polaroid again!

Thanks so much you two for an awesome time! We are so happy for both of you!

I’m still out of sorts, restless and not feeling well, what I would call “blah”. I’ll go to bed in a few minutes, see what the morning brings in the way of a refreshed mind and body. I haven’t been depressed in a long time, but that is certainly what this feels like.

I’ve been getting report from TSR for at least a day and a half on this storm in the Pacific. At first it had no name, just a number. The afternoon it went from yellow to red alert, a Cat 1 hurricane or higher, heading for the Philippines. ETA is 12 hours. There is a fascination in watching these storms spawn and grow, I can see why people become meteorologists.
